Staff development meeting recap, 3/2/11

The staff development committee had a full agenda for our most recent meeting on 3/2/11:
  • Discuss the wording in the grant and decide if we should proceed with the THATcamp plan.
  • Decide if we need to continue working on the summer institute.
  • Other topics or concerns
  • Next steps for the committee
In previous conversations, the group thought that the unconference THATcamp might be a way to help people gain new insight into digitization processes. After much discussion it was decided that THATcamps are exciting and valuable but it would be difficult to apply the modest travel funds equitably. It might also set a precedent of sending people to conferences which is not in our budget and does not fit in with the grant guidelines.

Our focused shifted to the summer institute where we had some great ideas for topics, speakers, and themes. It is important to us to gain input from others so Catalina offered to make an anonymous poll to gauge interest and solicit new ideas. This poll should reach the Ohio5 before the end of the week.

We had some preliminary discussions about faculty presentation options but no final recommendations were made.

The group has a lot to prepare for our next meeting. Full meeting notes may be viewed by clicking the link below:
